“In
the rhythm of Christian life, Ewalu serves as a place apart to connect the Word
of God with the world of God.”
When
I read this mission statement I always break it up into pieces. First part is
the place apart. Next is the Word of God. Then it is world of God. And last is
the connection they all have.
Places
apart: Ewalu is apart from everything else both physically, mentally and spiritually.
Ewalu is in the middle of nowhere, along way from the nearest town. The nearest
town is Strawberry Point which is located many miles away on both gravel and country
roads. When you look at camp Ewalu on a map or in pictures, fields surround it.
Mentally apart in the fact that many people come and forget about what is happening
outside of the camp. Camp like a giant bubble and it helps to rejuvenate you.
In a spiritual concept it’s a place where many people see God. The seclusion
allows one to just think of everything and have God come to them. I know that I
can see God more there then any place else I have been.
Word
of God: Ewalu shares the Word of God to anyone that is willing to come and be a
part of the glory that God is. It’s amazing how different the Word of God
sounds coming from a counselor or a peer rather then a pastor. From my
experience it is easier to understand. Maybe because it is coming from someone
close to my age or the fact that I’m at camp. Either way the Word of God is a
major part of Ewalu.
World
of God: The world of God is everywhere but when you think about it, it is only
where you believe it is. I believe that it’s everywhere. One may believe it’s
only in a place of worship. Either way it’s always a place where God is present
and consists of the things that God’s creations. Ewalu is a place where you can
see more then just buildings and man made creations, but also a place to be in
nature and in presence of God.
Connection:
I believe this mission statement means that Ewalu is a place that is like no
other that wants to help bring God’s word and God’s creations together to
create something brilliant…
